Four Things I Love Most About Living in Colombia — And Why It’s Worth Experiencing It Yourself

There are places that feel beautiful, and then there are places that feel alive. Colombia is the second kind — a country where landscapes, people, music, and daily life seem to vibrate with an energy that is difficult to describe but impossible to forget.
After years of living here and guiding travelers from around the world, I’ve come to understand that what makes Colombia special isn’t just what you see — it’s what you feel.
These are the four things I love most about living in this country, and the four reasons I believe it’s a place worth experiencing at least once in your lifetime

1. A nature that doesn’t just Impress — It transforms

If you love nature, Colombia is a revelation.
This isn’t a country of one landscape — it’s a country where ecosystems speak to one another. Our páramos connect with our deserts; the Amazon shares its energy with the Sierra Nevada; the Pacific and the Caribbean mirror each other in rhythm and wildness.

Colombia holds the highest biodiversity per square meter in the world, and you can feel that abundance. The land isn’t just beautiful — it has a heartbeat. It teaches you, grounds you, and expands you.

I’ve always believed that life works as a system, not in separate parts — and Colombia embodies that truth perfectly. Its interconnected: nature creates a sense of harmony, flow, and transformation that I haven’t experienced anywhere else. Being here reminds you that you, too, are part of a larger ecosystem — and that you belong.

2. A country that dances — even on ordinary days

One of the most distinctive things about Colombia is that there is music everywhere. In small towns, someone is always playing a speaker, a guitar, or a drum. Even the streets seem to hold a rhythm of their own.

Music here is not just entertainment — it’s a form of resilience, joy, and identity.
Colombia is home to more than 1,000 musical rhythms, each with its own instruments, dances, and cultural roots. From the tambor on the Caribbean coast to the smooth notes of Andean strings, music rises naturally from the landscape and its people.

And the best part? It’s almost impossible not to move. Being in Colombia makes your body remember something ancient — a natural desire to express, to enjoy, to participate in life.

3. The gift of Change — always Within Reach

This is something deeply personal, but it’s one of my favorite parts of living here: I can change my environment whenever I need to.
There are no seasons to wait for — change is always available.

If I’ve spent too long in the cold of Bogotá, I can simply get in a car and, within a couple of hours, be under the sun again. If I want jungle, I go east; if I want ocean, I go north; if I want mountains, I stay exactly where I am.

This constant access to new climates and landscapes means my energy is always being renewed. Colombia teaches you that movement, when done consciously, can be healing. And that renewal doesn’t have to be complicated — it can be as simple as stepping into a different kind of air.

4. Freshness you can taste

Colombia tastes like abundance.
Thanks to its climate and fertile soil, fresh produce isn’t a luxury — it’s everyday life. Fruits, vegetables, herbs, and meats arrive to your table full of flavor, full of color, full of life.

Here, food is vibrant. There are dozens of fruits you’ve probably never seen before — each with its own texture, fragrance, and personality.
You feel it in your body: eating in Colombia is eating close to the source. It’s nourishment in its purest form.
